Jay Cohen, Psy.D., M.A.

Jason Cohen holds a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology and Master’s in Counseling Psychology. As a psychologist, Dr. Cohen’s primary areas of practice have been along the lines of psychological assessment/testing with criminal populations (e.g., violence, psychopathy, court-order psychological evaluation) while employed in various state (i.e., maximum security, supermax) and federal prisons and hospitals. Among his primary areas of expertise has been shaping uber aggressive and/or fear-based behavior into prosocial assertiveness. He also has skills related to understanding non-verbal behavior and is a federally trained hostage negotiator. As a 15 year fitness enthusiast and Division I collegiate athlete, he is currently developing a fitness based behavioral program aimed at reducing violence perpetuated by incarcerated males. Between 2005 and 2009, he was a collaborator on a published research project aimed at understanding the use of performance enhancing drugs.

More recently Dr. Cohen has entered the world of industrial psychology whereby providing consultation for various business entities (e.g., hiring, retention, motivation). He is also currently involved in a high-end start-up match making service.

Doug KalmanDouglas S. Kalman PhD, RD, FACN

Dr. Kalman is one of the most recognized names in the sports nutrition community. He has been involved in over 100 clinical trials and projects within the pharmaceutical, medical and nutrition fields, and has published over 50 abstracts and more than 25 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He is also on the Editorial Board of three Scientific Journals.

Dr. Kalman received his undergraduate degree from Florida State University, Masters Degree from Hunter College – City University of New York and Doctorate in exercise and nutritional biochemistry from Touro University International. He is an Active Member and or Spokesperson with many organizations (ISSN, NSCA, APS, ACSM, etc.) and co-founder of The International Society of Sports Nutrition. Dr. Kalman is also an Adjunct Professor both at Florida Atlantic University in the Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion and in the Robert Stempel School of Public Health at Florida International University. He is considered a leader in the fields of medical nutrition therapy, metabolism, sports nutrition, counseling and clinical research.

Elizabeth BrownElizabeth Brown MS, RD, CPT, CDE

Elizabeth Brown, MS, RD, CPT, CDE is a Registered Dietitian, Certified Holistic Chef, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Diabetes Educator and Certified Weight Management Specialist who is also known as The Kitchen Vixen. Elizabeth writes a weekly food/nutrition column under the name Kitchen Vixen for the Santa Monica Daily Press Newspaper. She is also a regular contributing writer for Oxygen magazine, a women’s fitness magazine. She wrote the exercise descriptions for the Men’s Health book, “Banish Your Belly” and her expert advice has appeared in Men’s Health, Prevention, Shape, Self and Fitness magazines. Elizabeth also enjoys conducting TV cooking demos and professional interviews with more than 100 television appearances to her name. Elizabeth loves to educate and motivate others to be the very best they can be through optimal nutrition. Jack DarkesJack Darkes, PhD

Jack Darkes is familiar to the bodybuilding and fitness community for his Internet articles on psychology and performance-enhancing substances. He is also a university associate professor of psychology and has authored many scientific publications and book chapters in his field. He is a Senior Editor for the journal, Addiction.

Prior to earning his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Jack spent 10 years in the U.S. Army, attained the rank of Sergeant Fist Class and served as a Company First Sergeant. His military experience, psychological research and expertise in human behavior, along with over three decades of involvement in bodybuilding and resistance training make him a natural for Team True Alpha. His personal transformation and training longevity suggest he has something of great value to offer those motivated in search of change.

Jack has sought constant challenge; he completed his Bachelor’s degree while on military duty, left the service to start a career in psychology, and has become a well-respected researcher.  Through every challenge, Alpha Attitude and the “Discipline of Iron” have been constants. Jose AntonioJose Antonio, PhD

Jose Antonio, Ph.D. is the CEO and co-founder of the International Society of Sports Nutrition; furthermore, he is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and National Strength and Conditioning Association. He was the 2005 recipient of the NSCA Research Achievement Award and the 2009 NSCA Educator of the Year; moreover, has published 12 books and over 40 plus peer-reviewed scientific publications.

He is the host of three radio shows that include the Performance Nutrition Show (co-host, Carla Sanchez), the Strength-Power Hour (co-host, Dr. Bill Kraemer), and the Weekend Workout (co-hosts, Anna Lepeley and Juan Carlos Santana; specials guests: Gina Lombardi and Abbie Smith). Dr. Antonio is on the Advisory Board of Informed Choice and has given lectures on sports nutrition throughout the world. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Sports Nutrition Insider, the first and only trade publication dedicated to the sports nutrition industry, and Inside Fitness magazine, and is a regular contributor to Ironman, Muscular Development, and Fitness Rx Men/Women. Furthermore, he is the sports science and clinical trials manager to VPX/Redline. Also, Dr. Antonio is a co-founder of Javalution, makers of JavaFit coffee.

Dr. Antonio completed a Ph.D. and post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas Texas. He is an Assistant Professor at Nova Southeastern University in Ft Lauderdale FL.

Abbie E. SmithAbbie E. Smith, MS, CSCS, CISSN, CPS

Abbie E. Smith, MS, CSCS, CISSN, CPS is smart, energetic and is making her way as an up-and-coming sports nutritionist.  She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Oklahoma where she coordinates the Metabolic and Body Composition Laboratory.  Abbie is heavily involved in the scientific community publishing research, presenting on various sports nutrition topics and serving on the advisory board for the International Society of Sports Nutrition and the International Physique Professionals Association.  You will also find Abbie educating fitness enthusiasts with her regular columns in the Sports Nutrition Insider and Inside Fitness, with various articles in Men’s Health, Muscle & Fitness, and M&F Hers, scholastic books and sharing fitness and nutrition tips on The WeekendWorkout radio show.  Of course it’s important to know that Abbie practices what she preaches, as a former collegiate athlete, current fitness instructor and triathlete, she is constantly playing with her pre-, during, and post-workout supplement cocktails leaving her at the top of her mental and physical game.

Jordan MoonJordan R. Moon  PhD, CPS, CSCS*D, HFS

Dr. Jordan R. Moon is an associate professor of exercise physiology and the Department Head of Sports Fitness and Health at the United States Sports Academy. Dr. Moon received his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from The University of Oklahoma where he extensively researched body composition changes during exercise and nutrition interventions. Dr. Moon is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a Certified Health Fitness Specialist (HFS) through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and a Certified Physique Specialist (CPS) through the International Physique Professionals Association (IPPA).

Dr. Moon has trained all levels of athletes, including professionals in Major League baseball, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, as well as college athletes and teams in addition to youth and fitness clients. Dr. Moon has published numerous articles on human body composition and changes regarding age and fitness level. Dr. Moon has also published scientific and mainstream articles and presented in the areas of sports nutrition, obesity, and fitness. In addition, Dr. Moon has served as a reviewer for the NSCA, the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, and the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine. His work as a scientific author allowed him to be recertified with distinction (*D) through the NSCA in 2008.

Eric BroserEric Broser

Matt WeikMatt Weik

Matt Weik has had his hands in just about every aspect of the fitness industry. Matt is a graduate of Penn State University where he received his BS in Kinesiology. He began in the industry as a personal trainer as well as a strength & conditioning coach. Without completely separating himself from the fitness industry, Matt has branched out into another passion of his—the supplement industry where he is currently a Regional Manager for a leading supplement company.

You might be familiar with some of Matt’s publications on training, supplements, and nutrition from his features in magazines (Ironman, IronPinoy, MET-Rx, and he is a monthly columnist and contributing author for Body Fitness as well as Physique magazines). Taylor SimonTaylor Simon, CSCS

Taylor Simon hails from Western Canada although he currently resides in Kingston, Ontario. That is where he co-owns Taylored Training Inc., operating Canada’s first hybrid gym. Taylored Training Fitness Studio has become the premier training facility in the area and Taylor a sought after local fitness expert.

A BA in Sociology from the University of Calgary thoroughly prepared Taylor for a leadership role in the fitness industry and he is continuing to advance his education as a MS candidate in Human Movement through A.T. Still University. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist for the last 6 years, Taylor has worked as the head strength and conditioning coach for Queen’s University varsity volleyball, seeing them become 2-time provincial champions. He also works with a variety of elite athletes in volleyball, rowing, skiing, and triathlon.

Taylor is a sought after media fitness expert and currently has 3 regular radio spots in Kingston in addition to writing for various online media outlets and maintaining his fitness newsletters and blogs. He has been a guest lecturer and fitness consultant at the Queen’s School of Business and Queen’s Executive Development Program, speaking to executives on corporate strategies in health and wellness. Elissa LoweElissa Pratt-Lowe, MS

Elissa is a former post-graduate researcher (Food Science and Technology) and research associate (Medical Pathology) with the University of California at Davis. 

After leaving California, Elissa combined her interests in bodybuilding, technology and nutrition into an online career. Currently, she’s the “scientific and technical advisor” for the supplement consumer advocacy site and administrator/advisor for the Brink’s Bodybuilding Revealed and Fat Loss Revealed forums. Elissa is well-versed in the history of frauds, hoaxes and pseudoscience, and works hard to help her readers sort through the (often misleading and/or self-serving) information on health, fitness, nutrition and supps they encounter via the internet and other media outlets.
