MAKE Your Dreams Come True…

“The word ‘dream’is often defined as a ‘fantastic but vain hope.’ To me this implies that dreams usually don’t come true and that we have no control over whether they do. Well, if YOU think this way, then chances are your dreams WILL NOT materialize. However, if you have faith your dreams CAN become reality, and live like it is a foregone conclusion that they WILL, you are on your way to having whatever you want.”

The “Act As If” Principle – How The Right Mind-Set Will Get You In Amazing Shape!

Just over a year ago, I began training a 38 year old male who weighed 310 pounds. When I met him in person, I could see that he was hungry to make positive changes in his life. He had gotten to a point in his life, where he was clearly not happy about the way he looked and felt.

This was obviously having a major impact on both his personal life and his career. Although I saw his desire to change, I still wasn’t sure that he’s  have the ability to truly buy in to the True Alpha program. I pull no punches and I expect my clients to give me their all. I wasn’t sure that he could give that to me.

Well, we began the program and as I expected, it was slow going for the first week. He had been sedentary for a while and I certainly didn’t want to rush into things, as I didn’t want to do any physical harm to my client by rushing the process.

We started off and again, Read the rest of this entry »

True Alpha Attitude!

“What doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger,” wrote the German philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche in Twilight of the Idols. Besides being a monumentally manly thing to say, there’s a great deal of support for the idea, even if Nietzsche himself was a little crazy. “Strength does not come from winning,” said a famous Austrian who went from bricklayer to bodybuilding champion to California governor. “Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.”  Next time your struggles seem overwhelming, think about Nick Vujicic, and be inspired…..

Not everything in life is as we might want it.  We all have days when our problems seem like a heavier burden than usual.  Sometimes, our burden may seem overwhelming.  How we deal with those days is in large part what defines us.  It’s what True Alpha Attitude is all about.

Time Under Tension

Time Under Tension – In traditional weight training programs, there are typically three standardized repetition ranges, each designed to accomplish a different goal or result. Typically you’d perform anywhere from 1-6 repetitions if your focus is to improve strength, 8-12 repetitions if your focus is muscle hypertrophy and an increase in muscle size, and 15-25 repetitions if your focus is to improve muscular endurance and maximize fat loss.  Each has its’ place in a successful overall training routine and should be incorporated in order to accomplish each of these goals. The Write Stuff

NotebookYears ago, my husband’s weight hit a high of 257 lbs.  Now, John’s a big guy, but this still put him on the cusp of obesity. He knew he had to start eating less and exercising more, but he was under a lot of work stress – it was hard for him to make all the necessary changes in one go. So we took a more gradual approach to get him started in the right direction. He decided to drink more water, eat a minimum of 5 servings of veggies/fruits per day, make time for some moderate daily exercise and eliminate desserts/treats.  Overall, these changes were pretty painless… and they definitely helped. His weight and girth slowly began to drop.  As the months went past, we also increased the intensity of his workouts, which helped him shed some more.

How Many Calories Will I Burn?

The more active you are, the more calories you’ll burn. Most health conscious people worry way too much about the number of calories and not enough on the quality of the calories that they’re consuming.

It’s time to keep it simple – Don’t worry so much about the amount of calories, but rather focus on: Read the rest of this entry »

All Show & No Go? It’s Go Time!

It’s very easy to get caught up in a fitness routine that relies exclusively on weight training exercises and minimal cardio or other physical activities.

The term All Show & No Go often applies to bodybuilders, as they are often most concerned with looking aesthetically perfect. You may have heard stories of bodybuilders who couldn’t run a block’s worth without feeling like they’d keel over or some who were so big that they depended on their spouses to actually wipe them when they went to the bathroom. That’s just crazy!

Inspiration Through Tragedy

Many people feel they have the strength and toughness to get through anything life throws at them.  A true alpha can adapt and survive no matter what.

Let me put you in a scenario…  You get hit by a car and have severe head trauma.  You finally get out of the hospital after spending 6 weeks in a coma and 3 1/2 months in the hospital.  You leave the hospita lto find you aren’t the same person mentally and physically.  You find yourself slipping into a depression and think the answer to fix it is alcohol.  Your last drink you pass out and probably shouldn’t wake up due to the excessive amount you had.  But luckily you do.  Do you continue down the dark path or do you find another outlet to deal with your emotions?

Dan Cox, a true alpha, found his outlet.  FITNESS!  Check out Dan Cox’s inspirational interview!
